Moving Mountains II: East Meets West

QW Gallery, 113A Main Street, Port Washington, NY, 11050

YouYe (pronounced Yo’-yeah) Chu will present a series of her original paintings and prints in her second solo American exhibition. Moving Mountains II: East Meets West will be on display until January 20 at the Rotunda Gallery at the QW Gallery, 113A Main Street, Port Washington, NY, 11050.

About Moving Mountains II

Mountains are revered by the Chinese because they’ve long nurtured its history and the noble character of its people. Confucius believed that benevolent people loved mountains, therefore compassionate people and mountains were inextricably connected with the Chinese spirit. Since ancient times, literati have sought out mountains as places of solace to create art, write poetry and drink tea.

Moving Mountains II reflects Ms. Chu’s love of the mountains and nature and her patient approach to life. Named after her maternal grandmother, You Ye means “live life slowly” and that’s exactly how she lives her life. Moving Mountains is based on an ancient Chinese folk tale about an old man who others called foolish because he thought he could move a mountain. When confronted by doubters he replied that it is, in fact, possible to move a mountain if you approach the task one stone at a time.

The exhibition will showcase Ms. Chu's work from throughout her career. Works include some created in China from her popular Chair Series (2010) and Mountain Series (2012), as well as oil paintings and traditional Chinese ink paintings created here in New York this past year.
